BLACKBIRD “double breasted director’s jacket” (Black)

The "double breasted director’s jacket" is crafted by fusing elements of an authentic tailored jacket with those of a chore coat.

This model is a sibling to the "director’s jacket," which has been a staple of the brand since its inception. While retaining some of its predecessor's characteristics, the sleeve attachment and cuffs utilize the construction of a chore coat rather than a tailored jacket. By intentionally finishing the stitching with a casual touch, the composed posture of the double-breasted design is layered with the ease of workwear.
The design ensures beautiful drapes where the fabric falls and creates natural three-dimensional depth where it expands. Even the way wrinkles form when worn is meticulously calculated through precise patterning.

Despite its striking, formal presence, a major appeal is its gentle comfort; it does not constrict the body, making it easy to wear all day without fatigue.

Even if wrinkles occur through wear or carrying, they are accepted as part of the garment's character, allowing it to be worn casually and daily without fuss.

The dignity of a tailored jacket meets the functionality and approachability of a chore coat. It is a jacket that brings together two garments with different backgrounds in a balance unique to BLACKBIRD.

With this piece, you won't have to worry about styling; it completes the look effortlessly.
The sleeve construction is like that of a chore coat, with a wider tube that allows you to easily layer it over thick innerwear. Conversely, when wearing thinner innerwear, the extra room creates a lovely, relaxed feel.
The material is from the Italian mill Lyria, a personal favorite of mine, and I am very much looking forward to how the texture of the fabric changes over time.

-director’s monologue-
Just as the director’s jacket remained a classic for ten years, I felt it would be meaningless to embark on this double-breasted version unless I aimed for it to last even longer—and now we are in our third season.

In a word, the double breasted director’s jacket is a "cheat" piece for me.
It pairs well with any bottoms, from slim to wide, and works regardless of the wearer's body type or personal style.

Actually, this item wasn't included in the 009 collection lineup. The reason is simple: I felt this one piece was enough. Even though we created it ourselves, it's a bit of a tricky jacket to have in the mix.

If you have been considering adding a director’s jacket to your closet, I highly recommend that you at least try on this double-breasted version once.
