MacMahon Knitting Mills — The Charm of Handcraft
Hello. This is Miyaji from Lakewood Clothing.
The other day, I went to have some postcards made. Since I lack the skills, I just brought my logo file and asked, "Could you make this into a nice-looking postcard?"
They replied,
"Please bring us a finished file, something simple using Illustrator is fine."
I don't know how to use Illustrator, so I asked ChatGPT what I should do...
It made it for me easily. So convenient!!
I managed to get through that situation unscathed.
While I feel the convenience of things like that every day, I also have the feeling that I am gradually regressing. (Maybe it's just me.)
While I admire high-tech things, I am also drawn to—though maybe not exactly "craftsmanship"—things that are "created by human hands."
Slightly uneven stitches, shapes that aren't perfectly uniform.
I think things that bear the touch of their creator have a unique air and atmosphere about them. Furthermore, I feel that they only truly become complete once you've worn them in.
The Cowichan sweaters from MacMahon Knitting Mills that I am introducing today are one such item that carries that kind of charm.
They will be available in our store starting Friday, October 16th. First, here is a glimpse of the LOOK.

The return of a look that wasn't in recent collections brought back a great vibe.
Once again, as our shop’s theme suggests, I love things that have a folk-art quality or a handcrafted feel.
The expression of the knit, the slightly irregular and charming motifs.
The subtle variations unique to manual work are what make these clothes so attractive.
For items like these, I don't believe that quality materials and a perfectly refined finish are everything. In fact, if they become too sophisticated, the very thing I'm drawn to begins to fade. Things that are too "perfectly" done can sometimes feel a bit lackluster.
MacMahon Knitting Mills naturally retains a sense of simplicity and generosity. It is warm, yet also slightly humorous. That exact balance is unique to this brand, and it is wonderful.
I am fond of the pieces I’ve had custom-made in the past, and I wear them every year. Judging by my orders for this year’s items, it seems I have a tendency to be very drawn to the Cowichans from this brand.
They have elements that recall vintage styles, yet they can be worn according to today's mood. They feel nostalgic somewhere, yet look fresh when paired with regular clothes. I think it’s that balance that I like.
Although they come in one size, they somehow create a great balance whether worn by a man or a woman. It’s also interesting how the silhouette and atmosphere change depending on the person wearing the same knit.
Here are the three types that have arrived this time.

Cowichan-Dog Sled
Price:¥42,900- (tax in)
This is truly a model for me, given my current fascination with Alaska and Canada. Actually, I even requested that they make this model. I like it so much that I've decided this is the one I’ll wear and "grow" this year. It features a gray body with husky faces knit to face each other on either side.
The faces are rendered in black and white, with the red tongues providing a small accent. Thin patterns on the cuffs and hem add a subtle playfulness to the muted colors.
The dogs have a certain charm in their expressions, a pattern that makes you grow fond of it the more you look at it.
Truly a piece that fits my current mood.
It would look great paired with gray slacks to connect the colors, or worn simply with black pants.

Cowichan-Cowboy
Price:¥44,000- (tax in)

A piece with a vibrant red base featuring a cowboy swinging a lasso. The white stars on both sleeves are also striking.
It is great how the cowboy figure is expressed so generously using limited colors and stitches. The dynamic motif combined with the red body makes it stand out among the three styles.

Cowichan-Dance
Price:¥46,200- (tax in)
A piece with a gray-brown body featuring two dancing figures.
In addition to the figure motifs in red and yellow, there are red and black lines and a music note pattern on the cuffs and hem. From the figures' poses to the musical notes, the entire garment conveys a cheerful atmosphere.
A muted base color with lively patterns. I also feel a rustic, hand-knit charm in this combination.
We will be stocking these three styles. We suggest pairing them with dressier items like slacks or pants with a bootcut or flared silhouette. This makes the handcrafted feel of the Cowichan stand out while keeping the overall look polished.
Wearing vintage-inspired knits with today's mood. I hope you enjoy that balance.
Available starting tomorrow, Friday, October 16th.
The online store is scheduled for 19:00.
Please come by the shop to try them on and feel the unique atmosphere of these Cowichans for yourself.
We look forward to your visit.
