MARK.S "Check Dress Shirt" (Check Mud)
Detail:
MARK.S “Check Dress Shirt” MUD-DYEING
ORGANIC COTTON WOOL〈OVER DYED〉
A yarn-dyed check dress shirt made with a warp of organic cotton low-twist yarn and TOP gray cotton yarn, and a weft of cotton-wool blended yarn.
The soft texture unique to low-twist yarn is complemented by the subtle warmth of the wool-blend. As it is primarily cotton, it carries the characteristics of wool without feeling too heavy, making it a fabric suitable for wear throughout many seasons.
After sewing, the shirt is mud-dyed over the check pattern, subduing the overall color tone while preserving the original pattern. The layering of the yarn-dyed check and natural dyeing creates a depth and nuance not found in solid-colored garment-dyed pieces.
This is a signature fabric and dyeing series for MARK.S, with three shirt styles available. The trousers are offered only in the Spring/Summer season.
The check pattern’s colors are slightly muted by the dyeing process, paired with the soft texture of cotton-wool. As the shirt is worn and washed, the mud-dye will slowly settle, allowing you to enjoy the aging process alongside the check pattern.
*Due to the natural dyeing process, there are slight individual variations in shade and depth. Please enjoy these as characteristics born from natural materials and hand-craftsmanship.
All MARK.S products are sewn within Japan. While some pieces may incorporate vintage, deadstock, or hand-woven fabrics from overseas, the sewing—the core of our craftsmanship—is consistently performed in Japan.

Brand:MARK.S
MARK.S is a brand that values receiving clothing through pure "sensation" rather than understanding it through words or logic.
In an age overflowing with information and explanations, clothing is sometimes discussed through words before one has even touched the physical object. However, there is no need for reasons or evaluation criteria for things that truly capture the heart.
Fabrics with a history, boro textiles, and vintage garments that have been long cherished possess a beauty that words alone cannot convey. MARK.S’s manufacturing began with the pursuit of this deeply personal and intimate sensation that arises between such clothing and the wearer.
The designer personally collects hand-woven and hand-spun fabrics from around the world, as well as antiques and deadstock fabrics that have remained unused. Focusing on natural materials, we produce small batches within Japan, leveraging the unique character and history of each material.
The mud-dyeing technique, passed down for generations on Amami Oshima Island, uses mud, tree bark, and iron-rich soil to express depth and nuance that can only be born from that land's nature. Additionally, some fabrics are woven slowly using vintage looms similar to hand-weaving machines.
Here lies a set of values different from mass production that prioritizes efficiency. Our goal is to create clothing that does not waste materials, is not swayed by the times, and remains into the future while changing alongside the person who wears it. Each piece from MARK.S is engraved with the designer’s aesthetic and the traces of accumulated time.
The designer’s name and background are not disclosed. This comes from the belief that one should see, touch, and feel the product itself before receiving such information.
The brand name "MARK" signifies signs, records, traces, and symbols. The "S" adds the meanings of Special and Supreme.
"The Designer’s Record / Archive."
The name MARK.S embodies the desire to leave behind one's aesthetic sensibilities as a trace within clothing.
