MARK.S “ROCHUT JACKET” (Check)
- HOME SPAN SERIES〈SPECIAL〉

The "ROCHUT JACKET" combines elements of both a work jacket and a shirt.

It occupies a space between the two, offering the presence of an outer layer while remaining as light and easy to wear as a shirt.
The fabric used is an original textile developed in collaboration with a factory in Iwate Prefecture. After creating a hand-woven sample, we used low-speed looms to weave the final product, carefully replicating its texture and the interplay of its colors.

Low-speed looms are capable of weaving yarns that are difficult to handle on high-speed machines, such as hand-spun or thick-count yarns. By weaving without placing excessive tension on the threads, we can retain their natural loft and character, allowing for the development of fabrics with a wide variety of textures.

This season, we have combined multiple types of yarn to create a check pattern with depth and complexity. We used wool slub yarn, Shetland wool heather yarn, and two shades of silk spun yarn. The differences in color, thickness, and luster of each yarn intertwine intricately within the fabric.

While the weave structure itself is a simple plain weave, the fluctuations in color from top-dyeing and the differences in yarn count create a rich, dimensional fabric that changes its impression depending on the viewing angle and distance.

The three-dimensional expression created by the intersection of different yarns and the soft texture unique to low-speed weaving make this a piece true to the SPECIAL series, crafted carefully from the ground up.

All MARK.S products are sewn within Japan. While we occasionally incorporate vintage, deadstock, or hand-woven fabrics from overseas, the sewing—the foundation of our craftsmanship—is consistently carried out in Japan.

Brand:MARK.S

MARK.S is a brand that values experiencing clothing through pure "sensation" rather than intellectualizing it through words or logic.

In an age overflowing with information and explanations, clothing is often described in words before it is even touched. However, for the things that truly captivate us, there is no need for reasons or criteria for evaluation.

Aged textiles, boro, and vintage garments that have been loved for years possess a beauty that cannot be fully conveyed through words alone. The craftsmanship of MARK.S began with the pursuit of these extremely personal and intimate sensations that arise between a person and their clothing.

The designer personally collects hand-woven and hand-spun fabrics, antiques, and deadstock textiles from around the world that have never been used. Focusing primarily on natural materials, the brand produces small quantities within Japan, breathing life into the character and history inherent in each material.

For our mud-dyeing—an ancient tradition from Amami Oshima—we use mud, tree bark, and iron-rich earth to express colors with depth and fluctuation that can only be born from that land's nature. Additionally, depending on the fabric, we utilize vintage looms similar to hand-weaving machines, weaving each piece slowly over time.

Our values differ from those of mass production, which prioritizes efficiency. We aim to create clothing that does not waste materials, is not swayed by the times, and carries on into the future while changing alongside the wearer. Each piece by MARK.S is engraved with the designer's aesthetic sense and the traces of time.

The designer's name and background are not disclosed. This is based on the philosophy that one should see, touch, and feel the product itself before being influenced by such information.

The brand name "MARK" refers to a sign, record, trace, or symbol. The "S" layers the meanings of Special and Supreme.

"The designer's record/archive."
