MARK.S

MARK.S is a brand that values receiving clothing through pure "sensation" rather than understanding it through words or logic.

In today's world, overflowing with information and explanations, clothes are sometimes described with too many words before they are ever touched. However, for things that truly captivate the heart, reasons and criteria for evaluation are unnecessary.

Antique fabrics, boro (rags), and vintage garments that have been loved for a long time possess a beauty that words alone cannot fully convey. MARK.S's craftsmanship began with the pursuit of that deeply personal and intimate connection formed between such clothing and the people who wear it.

The designer personally collects hand-woven and hand-spun textiles, unused antiques, and deadstock fabrics from around the world. Focusing on natural materials, we produce small quantities in Japan, honoring the character and history inherent in each material.

Our mud-dyeing process, a tradition passed down in Amami Oshima, uses mud, tree bark, and iron-rich soil to create colors with depth and fluctuation that could only come from that land’s nature. Furthermore, depending on the fabric, we use vintage looms similar to hand-weaving machines, weaving the textiles slowly over time.

What lies here is a set of values different from the efficiency-first approach of mass production. It is about creating clothes that do not waste material, that are unaffected by passing trends, and that will remain for the future while evolving alongside the wearer. Each piece from MARK.S bears the trace of the designer's aesthetic and the layers of time that have accumulated.

The designer’s name and background are not disclosed. This is because we want people to see, touch, and feel the product itself before any of that information.

The brand name "MARK" signifies a sign, a record, a trace, or a symbol, while the "S" adds layers of meaning, such as "Special" and "Supreme."

"The designer's record/archive."

The name MARK.S embodies the desire to leave one’s aesthetic sense behind as a mark in the form of clothing.
